I just read an interesting blog post in http://www.moodscope.com/blog/ of January 28th. In it, the author talks about the origin of the word "kind". Interesting stuff but i don't want to just copy it so click the link and check it out for yourself.

I've always admired Mother Teresa and how she taught kids to be happy in the midst of squalor
"People are often unreasonable, illogical and self centered; Forgive them anyway. If you are kind, people may accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives; Be kind anyway. If you are successful, you will win some false friends and some true enemies; Succeed anyway. If you are honest and frank, people may cheat you; Be honest and frank anyway. What you spend years building, someone could destroy overnight; Build anyway. If you find serenity and happiness, they may be jealous; Be happy anyway. The good you do today, people will often forget tomorrow; Do good anyway. Give the world the best you have, and it may never be enough; Give the world the best you've got anyway. You see, in the final analysis, it is between you and your God; It was never between you and them anyway."-- Mother Teresa Whenever I deal with a clerk in a department or grocery store, if they're not smiling I ask: “Where's your smile today?” At which point most will smile and I'll say something like: “That's better” or “Wow! That's a great smile.”
But if they don't smile, I'll ask: “Would you like one of mine? I have a million of them.” Then, I give them the biggest, widest, goofiest smile I can possibly muster up. That does it! Now, you might think that's just fun or cute but the truth is; that smile could be life altering. If the clerk is not smiling as most people are taught to do when dealing with the public, it's probably because they have all sorts of negative things on their minds.....like “I hope the traffic isn't as bad on the way home as yesterday” or “Darn, that spouse of mine had better have supper on the table tonight. He/she gets home an hour before I do. There's no reason he/she can't do that.” But once they hear the “smile” question, all of their thoughts go away. And maybe...just maybe, they're now in a little better mood for the drive home....who knows what negative thing “might” have happened on the way home diving in such a negative state. On top of that, think of the other people in line who got a chuckle out of my “smile” thing. That moment, they too had a change of thought.....and how many times might they repeat that little fun episode to others and make them laugh? Never underestimate the power of the tiniest act of kindness. What good deeds have you done?
What acts of kindness have others shown you? It doesn't mater how big or how small good deeds are, they are ALL important because they create “kindness ripples” that keep the kindness stream flowing. As Cuba Gooding Jr. might say: “Show me the kindness!” |
